As fun as Christmas is, it can be full-on and stressful. Come January, things suddenly slow down to a grinding halt after the celebrations of New Year’s Eve. January has a reputation for being quite a miserable month as we have spent all our money and have very little planned with our time. But, what this actually means is that is the perfect time to relax and unwind – and ease yourself into a new year feeling as refreshed as possible.
So, how are you going to do that?
Have a pamper night
After running around after everyone else you deserve some ‘me time’ and to really pamper yourself. So, run a bath, fill it with bubbles and light a few candles – then turn on some chilled music or pick up your book and relax in the tub. When you’re out, get out all your favourite products or try out new ones that you got for Christmas. Finally, put on a face mask and a hair mask and enjoy the peace and quiet for 15 minutes as you sip on a peppermint tea.
Organise a day out
Avoid the January blues by booking something now that you can look forward to and that will enable you to unwind after the festive period. In general, women do most of the work over Christmas. So, these gifts are for the wives – spa days to take the weight off your feet or a three-course meal to enjoy after all that cooking. This is also a great way to spend quality time together after a busy Christmas with all the family.
Go for a long walk
Head for the countryside or the coast and blow away the cobwebs. Take your headphones and listen to a podcast or your favourite music and truly switch your mind off as you breathe in the fresh air and spend time among nature. Make sure to wrap up warm in a coat, hat, gloves and scarf – then perhaps treat yourself to a hot drink and slice of cake afterwards.
Book a yoga class
Yoga has so many benefits – including helping you to destress and relax. So book onto a yoga class and spend an hour stretching your body and calming your mind. Would you prefer to do it at home? We all know everyone heads to the gym in January which often means if classes aren’t fully booked, they are very busy. But, there are classes on YouTube that will enable you to go at your own pace, from the comfort of your own home.
Get stuck into a good book
You’ve no doubt spent a large amount of time in front of the TV over Christmas watching specials and festive films. So, come January, switch the TV off and get stuck into a good book instead. There’s nothing cosier and more relaxing, when it’s cold outside than wrapping up in a blanket, sipping on a hot chocolate and reading a book. It will enable you to escape to another world – just what we all need in January!
Treat yourself to all of the above and you can fully relax and unwind after the busy festive period.
