Luxury Italian fashion and jewellery house Bulgari has partnered with award-winning artist Refik Anadol to host Serpenti Metamorphosis; a unique exhibition at the Saatchi Gallery celebrating its iconic motif – the serpent.
From 25 November to 23 December 2022, Bulgari’s new immersive experience will delve into the brand’s representations of the serpent throughout its history, uncovering the intricacies of the snake it’s based on, and showcasing its rebirth and personalities in the context of jewellery. This exhibition will also mark the beginning of Bulgari’s celebrations marking the 75th anniversary of Serpenti in 2023.
The centrepiece of Serpenti Metamorphosis will be an installation by Anadol, which promises to be one of the biggest multimedia artworks generated by artificial intelligence. The piece will build on the success of a digital experience staged by Anadol and Bulgari on the Piazza Duomo in Milan last year and has been created by machine-learning algorithms trained on more than 200 million images of nature, and designed to mimic the evolution of a snake.
The multi-sensory experience will also surround visitors with fragrances synonymous with Bulgari, alongside images and sketches from the house’s archive. Highlights include an exclusive selection of Serpenti pieces, spanning heritage jewellery and watches dating from the 1940s to the present day, as well as the latest high jewellery creations by the Roman jeweller.
A house signature since 1948, the Serpenti first appeared in the form of stylish bracelet-watches crafted using Bulgari’s unique tubogas technique. An instant hit with stars of the 1950s and 60s, such as Elizabeth Taylor, it quickly became one of Bulgari’s most recognisable designs.
Serpenti Metamorphosis, 25 November – 23 December 2022, free tickets available to book at bulgari.com.
