Net-A-Porter has launched its first dedicated customer care and repair clothing service as part of an ongoing mission to extend the life of its luxury products. The service, which will only be available in the UK, is now live, with sister sites Mr Porter and The Outnet set to roll it out later this spring.

While always intended to last longer than their fast fashion counterparts, even luxury clothing isn’t immune to the wear and tear of everyday use. However, in a move towards a more circular model, instead of encouraging repurchasing, the Yoox Net-A-Porter brands have partnered with repair and alteration service The Seam to breathe new life into customers’ wardrobes.

The collaboration marks The Seam’s first foray into luxury retail and will support its network of local makers across the country. Founder Layla Sargent says: “This partnership will enable The Seam and our network of specialist makers to deliver sustainable solutions to people at scale. We’re dedicated to shaping an industry where the experience of fashion isn’t just about consuming, but about participating in a culture of care.”

The customer offer includes clothing alterations, repairs, and bespoke customisation, as well as care and repair for handbags, footwear, and jewellery, with most services completed within a week.

The launch marks another step in the luxury fashion group’s shift towards more sustainable behaviours. It comes after 2021 saw the launch of the Net-A-Porter, Mr Porter and The Outnet resale offer, through which customers can refresh their wardrobes by reselling their pre-loved designer items, including ready-to-wear, handbags, shoes and jewellery. YNAP claims the service, which is powered by resale technology provider Reflaunt, has seen more than 60 per cent of pieces, which may otherwise have ended up in landfill, sold in new or excellent condition.

Interim CEO of Yoox Net-A-Porter, Alison Loehnis, added: “We believe that beautiful fashion from past seasons can be a building block of our customers’ future wardrobes. Net-A-Porter, Mr Porter and The Outnet are renowned for curating the most exciting luxury fashion and we take pride in offering tips and tools to make these pieces last. Our care and repair service, in partnership with The Seam, is designed to ensure that the pieces our customers buy from us can be cherished for years to come.”
