Forget the Oscars and Grammys. If there’s one red carpet on which the stars really need to put their best foot forward it’s the Fashion Awards. With an haute couture-level guestlist second only to that of the Met Gala, this annual gathering of the world’s most glamorous trendsetters is not the time to be throwing on an old LBD and calling it a day.
Happily, this year’s attendees got the memo – turning out in showstopping looks worthy of the event’s Royal Albert Hall location. Here are some of our favourites from the Fashion Awards 2022.
Florence Pugh and Pierpaolo Piccioli in Valentino
Pierpaolo Piccioli, who scooped the Designer of the Year prize at the Fashion Awards 2022, and actress Florence Pugh both chose Valentino for the designer’s big night. While Piccioli opted for classic tuxedo (worn, in signature style, with white trainers), Pugh donned a custom backless gown in a season red silk paired with Tiffany & Co jewellery.
Naomi Campbell in Valentino
British supermodel Naomi Campbell also chose Valentino for the evening. Channelling her inner disco diva, Campbell went for a shimmering silver gown with cape detailing and stacks of matching jewellery.
Tilda Swinton in Charles Jeffrey Loverboy
British actress Tilda Swinton, long famed for her red carpet prowess, chose a dramatic look from young London-based label Charles Jeffrey Loverboy for the Fashion Awards 2022. Swinton used the event to debut a new collaboration with the brand inspired by Scottish artist John Petrick Byrne, which will be unveiled in full as part of Charles Jeffrey Loverboy’s AW23 collection.
Elizabeth Debicki in Dior
The Crown star Elizabeth Debicki gave a less in baordroom to bar style in a Dior shirt and tailored black trousers paired with Jimmy Choo shoes. The actress also chose fine jewellery from Dior’s Bagatelle and Rose des Vents collections.
Jodie Turner-Smith in Gucci
The evening’s host, actress Jodie Turner-Smith, turned heads in an eye-popping neon green gown and matching cape from Gucci. This was far from Turner-Smith’s only jaw-dropping looking of the night, with her onstage duties also seeing her outfitted in midnight blue Richard Quinn, sequinned 16Arlington and a cacophony of white frills by Robert Wun.
Maya Jama in Sabina Bilenko Couture with Ozwald Boateng
Broadcaster Maya Jama joined Savile Row tailor Ozwald Boateng at The Twenty Two hotel for a Fashion Awards after party celebrating Jefferson Hack’s Special Recognition Award for Cultural Curation. Jama chose a form-fitting Sabina Bilenko Couture gown and statement jewellery for the evening.
Winnie Harlow in Iris Van Herpen Couture
Model Winnie Harlow opted for a sculptural gown by haute couture designer Iris Van Herpen for the awards ceremony. The bold look was accompanied, not by statement jewellery, but by a daring hair style reaching all the way to Harlow’s ankles.
Munroe Bergdorf in Tony Ward Couture
Practical for a sit-down dinner and awards ceremony? No. Completely fabulous? Absolutely. Munroe Bergdorf donned acres of Tony Ward Couture ruffles attached to a shimmering blue and silver gown for the Fashion Awards 2022.
Laura Carmichael
Forget what we said about LBDs: when they’re as good as Laura Carmichael’s we’re all for them. The Downton star’s velvet look blended chic cutouts with a sweeping train and diamond jewellery for good measure.
