is set in 38 hectares of historical beauty. This campsite is in the grounds of a stunning château, formerly the summer residence of the bishops of Quimper in France. The château is just a stone’s throw from the stunning sandy beaches of Brittany, and the area has much to offer, but you may never feel the need to leave the campsite.

I say ‘campsite’, it really is the crême de la crême of camping, 5-star, offering electricity hook-ups, outside sunbathing and dining furniture and even a fridge, all inside your own well manicure large and private pitch, surrounded by hydrangea bushes and mature trees. The gardens are a sight to behold and well kept by an army of groundsmen.

The campsite includes a wonderful outside aquatic centre featuring flumes for the little ones to enjoy while you take advantage of the massage benches and jacuzzi beds. And when you’ve cooled down and feel a little peckish simply pop to the poolside restaurant, where delicious French Crêpes are highly recommended. There is a pitch and putt area by the pool and also a scenic nine-hole golf course.  There are numerous activities on-site to keep the whole family busy – pony trekking, tennis, bike hire, pétanque, fishing, trampolining, pedal go-karts, dozens of playgrounds and so much more…

We were invited to spend several nights in one of the luxury lodges (described as mobile homes on the website).  Our home for the week included a shower room, separate WC, a kitchen with microwave, large fridge and a hob, two generous sized bedrooms, a double and twin and a lounge with an indoor dining area as well as a huge wooden terrace with sun loungers, dining table and chairs. The lodges all have their own private space and are well situated with exactly the right amount of sun and shade. We found the lodge to be incredibly comfortable with everything you could possibly need for a one or two week break.

Our only regret was that we didn’t have our dog with us, they are welcome and the grounds provide numerous walking opportunities, through cool woodland down to the château and on to the estuary was the most stunning relaxing way to spend a few hours every day, taking in the views of the estuary and the chateau, great Instagrammable moments.

Every morning we strolled to the restaurant to pick up a legendary French stick for our lunch and a couple of freshly baked croissants for breakfast that we enjoyed on our shady terrace with a coffee before the morning sun became too hot.

The campsite is now privately owned and the sons of the owners take a personal interest in running it along with a huge team, ensuring the lodges, cottages and pitches are kept in the most pristine condition.

During these rather strange days of the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic, every measure has been taken to ensure safety for all visitors and for us, staying in one of these lodges was the perfect way to adhere to the social distancing and hygiene requirements.
